Top 10 Future Technologies

Top 10 Future Technologies

With every passing year new and strange technologies are being created which are blurring the lines between science fiction and reality. These are ten future technologies which we may see in the future.

1. Bendable Smartphones

This technology is based on the idea of flexible display. The first company to do develop a device based on this idea was Xeox PARC, where Nicholas K. Sheridan made a big breakthrough by developing a flexible e-paper in 1974. It is only recently that major electronic companies have decided to develop and create products with this technology for its consumers. Samsung and LG have both released smartphone with bent displays, but in future you will be actually able to fold your devices.

2. Exoskeleton

Just like the hard outer shells of insects, the exoskeleton is a mobile machine basically consisting of an hard metallic frame  which would be worn by humans. The hydraulically or pneumatically powered frame will increase the strength and stamina of a normal human to an astronomical level. This technology will revolutionize the field of prosthetics, it would perform multiple functions in the military and industrial fields. Ideally it will be the best combination between mobility of a human being and power of the machine.

3. 3D Bioprinting

With the advent of 3D printing, scientist are coming up with new ways to integrate this technology in multiple other fields. It is being used to create tailor made implants for  patients. Scientist are now developing new technologies which will help them to print 3D human organs like heart, liver and kidneys etc. In this process spatially-controlled cell patterns are generated using 3D printing, while retaining their cell function and viability. This technology is already being used in making prosthetics and hearing devices.

4. Mind Controlled Devices

Remotely operating mechanical or electrical devices are soon going to be a thing of past, as scientist have created technologies which will enable the user to operate device just with the power of your brain. This technology uses an interface which makes a direct connection between the user’s brain and an external device. This technology is already being implemented in certain fields, like enabling a patient to walk on prosthetics just by using brain signals, unmanned aircrafts are flown with the power of brain in areas which are too risky for human pilots. Soon the need of manually operating devices will be decreased as more and more device will be operated directly by your brain.

5. Force Field

A force field is supposed to be a barrier made up of energy which will stop any object to pass through it. This technology was not being researched extensively as other technologies were being developed which seem more effective and affordable, as any kind of force field will consume a huge amount of energy. Recently though, Boing has been granted patent for force field technology. Force fields will not just be used for defending military attacks as they will also be designed to stop biological attacks and also from solar or EMP burst.

6. Robotics

The constant increase in the use of drones in different fields of day to day life proves that mankind is heading towards unmanned transportation in the future. Remotely or self operating devices are already available and are being used. We can already witness this in unmanned public transport systems in certain countries. In future scientist are trying to develop unmanned cargo systems, self driving cars, unmanned aerial vehicles. Drones are already playing a huge role in today’s military operations and they have revolutionised the field of filming and media.

8. Cloaking

Cloaking devices were always thought to be something out of science fiction, but not anymore. This technology is based on the idea that light or any other form of energy  can be bent, making an object totally invisible to electromagnetic spectrum and other devices.Scientist in the University of Rochester in New York, have made an invisibility cloak using a combination of optical lenses, which any object that passes behind a certain line of sight can be made to disappear from view.

9. Retinal Implants

Retinal implants are in the forefront of fighting blindness, state of the art devices are being developed to assist the visually impaired. Recently the FDA have approved the Argus II Retinal Prosthesis System which will help people suffering from a rare genetic eye condition called advanced retinitis pigmentosa. Retinal implants using a small number of electrodes have shown encouraging results in patients with retinal degeneration and scientists are working to develop an implant which can restore the complete eyesight patients with zero retinal functions.

10. Holograms

For the longest time holograms were only seen on tv screens and science fiction movies, but not anymore. Scientist have created a new device that can transmit 3-dimensional images in close to real time. Many scientists believe that holographic televisions will be available within next 10 years. There are numerous functions that can be improved by hologram technology, like surgeons will able to make measurements without invasive surgery using holographic CAT scans, it will be used in advertising and consumer packaging and Optical computers will be capable of delivering trillions of bits of information faster than the latest computers.
