Senior Dating For Women: Do You Hate The Word ‘Senior’?

Today we are excited because I have a post from Andrew White a head of Marketing of – an Alaska-based dating site. He is a recognized expert on love, marriage and relationships and he is amazing. He beautifully explains in this insightful article how to move on after divorce you and get on with your life. We hope you learn more and enjoy the reading as we did.

Senior women has become its own category for the woman who are over 40 on up and looking for love. Now, I know that for some females they hate having the adjective ‘senior’ to describe them.
It is actually the online dating sites that brought the word seniors dating into the foreground.

Senior dating does not mean you’re a senior citizen, which refers to someone of retirement age although it would include the over 65 daters. But what this category is meant to do is distinguish you from the 20 to 30 something women dating. It is all about attitude from my point of view.
You would not argue about having the title of Sr. V P of Marketing in the business environment would you?

Or, holding the position of senior partner in a law firm would not offend you would it?
Or when you were a senior in high school you felt like the freshman were beneath you, right?

The point I’m trying to make is…

That senior could be a moniker to hold in high regard…

If you have a healthy self esteem. Or it could be a title to be thought of as demeaning…

If you want to be part of the a 30 something dating crowd, but in reality you’re not. It all depends on your attitude. My purpose for bringing this issue up is I believe us women, myself included, need to rethink our attitude around age.
It won’t work to stick our heads in the sand like an ostrich not wanting to deal with aging. But rather we need to learn how to age gracefully not being ashamed or embarrassed about who we are. We have some great role models today with Sophia Loren and Jane Fonda in their 70s still very active in their careers and as successful business women.

Diane Sawyer and Barbara Walters also come to mind as women over 60. These celebrities have embraced their age and are not hiding away somewhere because they have lost some of their physical attraction.

I sometimes get emails from women who see the term senior dating for women on a blog and freak out because even though they are 40, 50 or 60 something they don’t want to be put in that category of seniors dating.

So now this issue has caused me to kind of go on a campaign for all of us women over 40 to support each other in changing our attitude about dating and aging.

Believe me, I am the first to admit that being a woman who wants to be cool with aging…

I find it challenging. But I can’t use the challenging part as an excuse not to keep moving toward a radically different attitude about aging.

If you are part of the dating over 50 crowd as a woman you may have experienced that some men your age want to date younger women in their 30’s. And that could make you feel like you are over the hill if you allow yourself to go there.

But really, how many women in there 30’s want to be with a man in his 50’s or 60’s. I’m not saying it never happens but it is not common place. Here’s the thing, you just need to be interested in the men that are more interested in dating and having a relationship with a woman within their age range.

What I mean is it is not about you age, it’s about choices. So, senior women is a great category to be in if that is who you are. So help me out friends in removing the stigma of seniors dating. Leave me a comment and tell what you think about this blog.
