Moscow: The government of Russia has announced a 10 hour pause in airstrikes on Aleppo so that humanitarian aid could be provided to the citizens, the pause will begin from 9am to 7pm on November 4.
According to reports by the General Staff of Russia has urged the militant groups to leave the area along with their weapons and to stop fighting.
The chief of the Russian General Staff, General Valery Gerasimov told media, “Considering that our American colleagues were unable to separate the opposition from terrorists, we are addressing all militant leaders directly, urging them to cease hostilities and leave Aleppo with their arms. Two corridors will be opened, from which Syrian troops and weapons would be pulled back.”
He also added that the rebel fighters did not succeed in breaking the barricades around the city, they can now leave the city through two designated exits and they can also take their weapons with them.
United States and other western countries have accused Russia and Syria of killing innocent civilians in large quantities, Russia has denied these accusations and have said that it has halted airstrikes in Aleppo since October 18 and Syria has done the same too.
However, a spokesperson for the Russian government has said that this pause will not be continued if rebels continue their activities and did not leave the city.
Russia has also said that it will provide six additional exits on Friday for the rebels to exit the city while carrying their arms.
The United Nations Security Council has said that its biggest concern is the separation of terrorist groups and civilians.
Vitaly Churkin the Russian Ambassador to the United Nations has said, “There is no unity of opinions among the Council’s members on the cause of the Aleppo tragedy, fierce discussions have been taking place, however I can assure you, that understanding of how important is delineation of opposition groups from terrorists has been gradually growing.”
Sergey Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister warned about the effects of western support to some rebel groups like the al-Nusra front, he said,
“The course of the debate “laid bare the actual reasons of escalation, inertia of thinking in some international players and shortcomings of specialized UN structures, multiplied by a not impartial stance of some UN functionaries,”
He also added, “Common sense continues to be sacrificed to false geopolitical paradigms aimed at forced dismantling of statehood and the search for enemies.
“We are looking forward to the moment when the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, in execution of his mandate, will announce the renewal of the Geneva process within the framework of the Resolution 2254.”
Both Russia and Syria are making an attempt to separate the rebel groups from the civilians by halting the airstrikes and giving them multiple safe passageways to leave the city, with their weapons.
Militants have also sabotaged previous efforts by the United Nations to evacuate the citizens and to provide medical aid by bombing the corridor.
General Gerasimov also said that the rebels cannot break the blockade and leave the city without our consent, all their efforts have failed and they can avoid needless deaths if they take up the offer by the Russian and Syrian government.
He said, “All attempts by the militants by break through the blockade of Aleppo failed. The terrorists sustained serious loss of manpower, arms and vehicles. They no longer have any chance to break out of the city.”
On the other hand, there are no sign of United States changing its policy of supporting the rebel groups, some of these groups are affiliated with terrorist organisations like Al-Qaeda, the Al-Nusra front is a prime example.
The Democratic nominee for the United States presidential elections, Hillary Clinton has suggested a complete takeover of the Syrian air space in order to effectively implement its policies.
United States military has clearly said that such an objective is not possible without an all out war with Russia which will most definitely turn into world war III.
With Russia installing its anti-missile defense system in Syria and United States insistence on supporting anti-Assad elements it seems like a proxy war is looming very dangerously on Syria, many experts believe that this could possibly start another world war.
Keep in mind the civil war in Syria has been going on for five years now, the Russian government is supporting Bashar Al Assad and his regime while the United States is supporting the rebel groups in an attempt to overthrow the Syrian government.
