Lebanese Police Fire on Anti-Trump Protesters outside US Embassy. Lebanese security forces have deployed tear gas and water cannons against demonstrators at the American embassy in Beirut today. The protesters reacted against the decision of US President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Some waved Palestinian flags, others lit fires on the streets or threw stones at the troops who had closed the way to the embassy.
Call Arab League
The Arab League appealed to Trump last night. According to a joint statement, ‘the American decision on Jerusalem is a violation of international law.’ The American president should, therefore, review his decision.
The countries also think that moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem will provoke violence in the region. The organization of 22 countries discussed opportunities to put pressure on the US with sanctions.
