Huawei Honor 6X Review: Smartphone with great value for money

If you are looking for value for money in a smartphone then look no further than Huawei’s Honor series as it has made a name of itself when it comes to great smartphones at affordable rates. Specially after Moto G series suffered a downfall Huawei quickly captured the market with the Honor 5X.’

The latest smartphone in the Honor series the 6X is another reasonably priced yet very good smartphone. It may not compete with the top of the line smartphones but you have to keep in mind that it does not cost as much as one of the high end smartphones like iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S series.

  • Processor: octa-core Huawei Kirin 655
  • RAM: 3GB of RAM
  • Screen: 5.5 inch 1080 HD LCD (403 ppi)
  • Operating System: EMUI 4.1 based on Android Marshmallow
  • Connectivity: LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, dual-Sim
  • Camera: 12MP+2MP dual rear camera, 8MP front-facing camera
  • Storage: 32GB+microSD
  • Dimensions: 150.9 x 76.2 x 8.2mm
  • Weight: 162g
  • Color: Grey, Silver, Gold

The Honor 6X is very similar in design to the Huawei Mate 9 but it is a little bit smaller in size, the back of the phone is metal and gives a very elegant look. The top and the sides are plastic, there is a fingerprint scanner on the back and it also feature a dual camera in vertical orientation.

For a smartphone that costs under $250 and is an improvement on its predecessor, a 5.5 inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution is a great feature. The screen gives a clear, colorful and crisp display.

The Honor 6X has very little flex in its body and it is made very well, the phone has a thickness of 8.2mm thick same as the Honor 5X. However, it is 4mm shorter than the 5X, but such a minute difference is hardly noticeable.

At 162g it is a little bit heavier than both the 5X and the Moto G4 whose weights are 158g and 155g respectively.

The Honor 6X comes with the Kirin 655 which is Huawei’s own processor, it handles apps and games with ease, it tends to get just a little bit warm while playing graphic-rich games. Otherwise it performs just like any other premium device with quick response throughout the normal operation of the phone.

Battery Life

Honor 6X has an amazing battery life and an to an average user it will last for well over one and a half day. The battery life timing is further prolonged when the device remains inactive for longer periods of time, as compared to other Android Marshmallow devices Huawei’s app control has the best power saving features and prolongs the battery life longer than anyone else.

Even when the phone is used for social media, emails, web browsing and other apps for upto 3 to 4 hours  the user is still left with half of the battery life at the end of the day. It also loses just a small percentage of battery life overnight.

Another great feature is the quick charging, it takes only an hour to completely charge the device.

Although the Honor 6X does give you the option of using two numbers on the same device, however, the second sim slot can be doubled as a microSD card slot to increase the storage. Unfortunately you cannot use the sim and the microSD card at the same time.

Instead of the latest USB-C port Honor 6X features a microUSB port which may not be a problem for now but in the near future everything will be using the USB-C.

Dual Camera

A 12 megapixel+2 megapixel dual camera captured detailed and colored photos excepts in conditions with really poor light. The 12MP main camera captures the image while the 2MP camera captures the depth information of the image.

Although there are better cameras in other smartphones when it comes to the quality of the photos, but when it comes to cost this is easily the best camera out there in the market. The front facing 8MP camera comes with fix focus and can capture good quality images even in poor lighting conditions.

Old User Interface

The Honor 6X is really an all around great phone but it does have one weakness, and that is its older version of Android Marshmallow. The fact that this phone is released four months after the release of the latest Android Nougat is really disappointing.

Other Features

  • Accurate and quick fingerprint scanner
  • Fingerprint sensor can be used to swipe through photos and to navigate the notification shade
  • Reception, data speed and call quality were all good

Price $280

With features like dual camera, dual-sim, microSD card support, quick processor, good battery life and a decent screen, the Huawei Honor 6X is gives great value for money.
