Disney Confirms Lion King Remake With Jon Favreau As Director


Hollywood: Disney has finally decide to remake the award winning animated film “Lion King” after the success of the recent remake of Jungle Book, the same director, Jon Favreau have been selected for this film too.


Jungle Book has grossed almost $965.8 million dollars worldwide and it was opened in April, this huge success has motivated disney to start a project of “reimagining” the Lion King in hope that it will bring the same amount of success.


According to released by Disney, “The Lion King builds on Disney’s success of reimagining its classics for a contemporary audience with films like Maleficent, Cinderella, and the upcoming Beauty and the Beast.”


Among these films Beauty and the beast is the most anticipated movie of 2017 and Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame is set to play the role of Belle.


The remake of Lion King will include songs from the original animated film, and original songs from Beauty and the Beast will also be added in the movie.


Director, Jon Favreau is also working on the sequel to the Jungle Book, however the release date of both the films have not been announced yet.


The Lion King grossed $968.8 million at the time of its release in 1994 and it is the most successful animated films of all time.


The Lion King has won numerous awards including academy awards for original song and original score and also two Grammy awards, the soundtrack on its own sold 14 million copies.


The stage production of Lion King in 1997 performed on Broadway won six Tony Awards.
