Los Angeles: Alongside the presidential elections of United States votes also took place for the legalization of marijuana for recreational purpose and voters have voted for the approval.
more states including Florida, North Dakota, Massachusetts and Nevada also approved the legalization of recreational marijuana use while the state of Arizona has rejected legalizing and results of Maine are still unknown.
According to the state of California funds from taxing cannabis trade will be utilized to support law enforcement, environmental protection and youth programs. Marijuana can be used as an alternative medicine for hepatitis C, Aids and cancer.
However, this decision is getting strong opposition from people who think that this will cause a drug epidemic because marijuana is too much popularized in the pop culture and they called it a “reckless disregard for child and health safety.”
People campaigning for legalizing of marijuana are happy with the decision as they are hopeful that the full potential of cannabis could extracted now. The president of Smart Approaches to Marijuana, Kevin Sabet said, “There’s a lot of money to be made if marijuana is legal, not a lot of money to be made if it remains illegal.”
Keep in mind that California had already legalized medical marijuana back in 1996.
Trending of #CalExit
The state of California is not taking Donald Trump’s victory very well and there #CalExit is now trending on social media outlets, it calls for a Brexit style separation from the US following Donald Trump’s win.
A group called ‘Yes California Independence Campaign’ is arranging a rally on Wednesday in Sacramento to increase support for this cause.
The manifesto of the group states, “In our view, the United States of America represents so many things that conflict with Californian values, and our continued statehood means California will continue subsidizing the other states to our own detriment, and to the detriment of our children.”
People on social media are saying that California has all the resources it needs to be independent including the world’s sixth largest economy, if people in Britain can decide to leave the European Union why can’t we decide to leave the United States of America.
One of the supporters of #CalExit tweeted, “Honestly we have legalized gay marriage, just passed weed, Hollywood, bombass beaches & voted Clinton. #CalExit, #Cleavefornia #byeUSA”.
Another one tweeted, “New Plan: #CalExit. If Britain can do it, why can’t California? We have Silicone Valley, weed, and the Kardashians. What more does one need.”
