Hangu: A bomb blast has killed at least 24 and injured another 99 people in the central market of the city of Parachinar, Pakistan.
The blast occurred right in the center of the market at a time when a large number of people were busy shopping. The explosion was so intense that it was heard all across the city and broke windows of nearby buildings and automobiles.
The attack occurred at Shendak bazaar outside an Imambargah (place of worship of Shia sect of muslims).
Rescue workers arrived at the scene and immediately transferred the injured victims to the Agency Headquarter Hospital Parachinar where they are being currently treated. The hospital administration has confirmed that at least 24 people have lost their lives in the incident including women and children.
A doctor from the Agency Headquarters Hospital, Mumtaz Hussain told Reuters: “Patients are being brought to us in private cars and ambulances and we have received over three dozen patients so far.”
Sajid Hussain, a parliamentarian from Parachinar said: “It was a suicide attack preceded by gunfire. The attack took place in busy area and a women’s mosque appears to be the target.”
The hospital administration has also appealed from the general people for blood donations, 12 seriously wounded people were airlifted on Helicopters to hospital in Peshawar by Pakistan Army.
Security forces and levies has taken control of the area after the blast and the investigation team has gathered important clues from the crime scene, meanwhile a search operation is also under way.
According to eyewitnesses the explosive material was placed in a car, an unknown person had parked his car outside the women’s entrance moments before the blast. However, the political administration and security forces have not confirmed that nature of the attack.
The prime minister of Pakistan Mian Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the attack and has shared his condolences with the victims and their families. He also said that the terrorist networks have been broken and we will eliminate terrorism at any cost.
The government has also announced that the families of the deceased will each receive Rs.500,000, while the injured people will each receive Rs.100,000.
A previous blast that occurred earlier this year killed 21 people in Parachinar, the attack occurred in a vegetable market.
